|
back
to top |
The Search results page displays the results of your search. From
here, you can link to the
bibliographic details of each record. You can also go to an order page
for the document, if available.
Each entry in the list consists of:
-
the publication title, which is a link to the full bibliographic record
-
the issuing body
-
the date of publication

| What order is the list sorted in? |
|
If you have used the one-box search in the search bar or a Flexible
or Boolean search on the Advanced Search page your results will be sorted in
order of relevance, i.e. the records most appropriate to your search are at the
top of the list.
If you have performed a command line search on the Boolean Advanced Search page
your results will be sorted in reverse chronological order.
The relevance of a result is indicated by the blue bars. Ten blue bars means it
is the most relevant record retrieved by your search, and one blue bar that it
is the least relevant record. Grey bars are used to bring the total number of
bars displayed to ten.
If you have used the one-box search in the search bar or a Flexible search you
can choose to sort your results by relevance, title, issuing body or date:
-
Choose one of the options from the drop-down list at the top of the page.
-
Click the
RE-SORT
button to sort your results.

If your search terms have produced a list of results that you think
is particularly useful or you have entered a search that you are likely to
repeat often, you can save the search terms to your
search history. UKOP allows you to save a maximum of 25 search terms to
your search history:
-
Click the
SAVE SEARCH
link.
-
Enter your username and password at the log in screen. If you are a first time
user, click the NEW USER
button.
Your search history page will be displayed.
If you already have 25 searches saved and you click the
SAVE SEARCH
link, you will be shown a list of the searches you have saved and asked to
select one to replace:
-
Click the
Replace search
link corresponding to the search you want to replace.
Your new search will be added to the list at the same place as the one you
replaced.
NOTE:
The option to save your search is not available from the Latest Additions
search results page. |

Two windows are displayed. The smaller one shows the copyright of
the issuing body and our disclaimer.
The larger one the complete text of the document. For consistency of
appearance, we have stored the full text of all documents in Adobe PDF format.
The Search results page is visible below these two windows. |
 |
| How does Adobe Acrobat work? |
|
Since January 2000, all full text documents catalogued in UKOP have
been stored in Adobe PDF format. So when you click a
full text...
icon, UKOP will launch the version of Adobe Acrobat you have installed on your
computer and display the document in a new window.
The Adobe Acrobat toolbar will be displayed at the top of this window, allowing
you to print, save and zoom in and out of the document, as well as moving
around the document by using the 'hand' tool. You can hold your mouse over each
icon on the toolbar to display the explanatory tool-tip.
If you experience any problems either with the download or functionality of
Adobe Acrobat, first ensure that you have the latest version of Acrobat Reader
installed. Click
here to see the current version (given in Step 3 of the download
instructions), and compare this to the properties of your current Reader.
You can do this by:
- Either:
-
-
Right-clicking on the Acrobat Reader icon and checking the properties.
- Or:
-
-
Opening Acrobat Reader and choosing
About Acrobat Reader...
from the
Help
menu.
Click
here to download the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
Alternatively visit the
Adobe Support Knowledgebase or
Acrobat Reader Top Issues section of their site for advice in answering
any queries you may have. |

Once you have finished reading the document:
-
Click the close icon on the title bar of either of the two windows.
Both windows will close to display the UKOP window.
NOTE:
If you are using one of the earlier browsers, e.g. Netscape 3 or Internet
Explorer 3, you will need to click the close icon on both the copyright and PDF
windows. |
